It seems weird but I loved this thing the first month I had it and now I’ frustrated more often than not. It does not pick up my heart rate like it used to, the battery needs changed at least every month and the accuracy is awful. At first I fell in love with it so its extremely disappointing. I am still working on playing with it to see if I can figure out what’s wrong. Will update this later.

I was unsatisified with the quality of the Heart Rate monitor in my Apple Watch as it would lose contact for long periods of time. I wanted a chest strap that would give me better accuracy and wouldn’t lose connectivity during my workout. From the online reviews I thought this would be compatible with my Apple Watch/iPhone. Unfortunately it just doesn’t work. After an hour and a half of trying to make it work and even downloading the proprietary Polar Beat app (which is substandard and I didn’t want to use anyway), I could only get the sensor to pair with my phone/watch for about 5 minutes, then it lost contact and will not re-pair. I’m sorry I wasted my money and truly wish there was a simple heart rate monitor that worked better than Apple Watch, that worked with Apple products and didn’t try to trap you in their own ecosystem of products. That would be a product I would by – this one is NOT that product.

Love my H10 strap!! I had to buy this one because my wife stole my first one and decided it was hers after she tried it! Thankfully the strap adjusts well so the biggest setting for me fits the smallest adjustment for her. Haven’t used it in water but it works perfectly during our CrossFit, sprinting, or any exercise modality.
Nothing else beats it if you are truly interested in tracking your heart rate during your training!

I brought an H10 device in November 2018 and the first disappointment is it did it work with ANT+ devices at all, so I could not connect it to other devices I have, such as my Garmin sport camera which can record external sensors including HRM’s. The device seemed to work fine with the iOS apps though, although the some basic functions are missing from both apps: where is the giant heart rate display with a running trace and min/max/avg statistics? The apps try TOO HARD to be sophisticated and they miss the mark on the most basic functions. They also require a login and constant sign-on (why???). An HRM without a simple, full-screen heath rate display is like a speedometer which would not display the speed, but a lot of other fancy data derived from it. Keep it simple. The final blow is that Polar finally announced in great fanfare their support for ANT+ and promised to retrofit this feature through a firmware upgrade, but despite having the latest iOS app (4.1.1.408) the upgrade is not offered for my device. I guess this is the price to pay for being an early adopter: unfinished products getting superceeded and abandoned within months of their release as hardware changes gets slipstreamed into production. Needless to say, I’m not going to re-purchase an H10 hoping to get an upgradable version the second time around: I’m now purchasing a Garmin dual mode HRM with Bluetooth-LE and certified ANT+ connectivity right off the bat, for considerably less money than the Polar H10. I bet on the outsider and it was a mistake.

I absolutely hate this thing. When it connects and detects a heart rate, it works great. Unfortunately, it only works about 25% of the time. First of all, I owned their basic one several years ago – before the app-enabled versions. It had a strap and a watch (FT-7??) which, btw, cost less than just the strap now. It was great, but after about 5 or 6 years, it stopped working (even with battery changes). Here are my issues:

    1. It does not pick up heart rate, except about 25% of the time. When it does, I have to spend 25 minutes repeatedly troubleshooting.

    2. It does have a running total of daily calories burned. For each activity (e.g. sitting at a desk, going on a walk, doing pilates, etc.), you have to indicate the specific activity and then, when you are finished doing that, end the activity via the phone. Then, you have to start a new activity. That would not be so bad IF you could have a running total for the day. Instead, you have to manually add up your calories burned. Also, you have to remember to change the activity.

    3. There is no other option, but Bluetooth via the app. Why can’t they include the basic watch they used to have? The older version came with a basic watch and strap. So, in other words, it does not have the watch and now, only works via Bluetooth connected to an app. [Yes, I know you can buy a watch, but why would I do that when I have already spent $100 and it doesn’t do the most basic thing – pick up a heart rate??]

    4. Because it only works with Bluetooth, you always have to have your phone close by.

    More specifics are below.

    * 75% of the time, it will not detect heartbeat or I have to work on it for 25 minutes before it finally does pick up a heart rate. I’ve gone through various troubleshooting steps:

    a. Rewet the rubber part of the chest strap.
    b. Disconnect and reconnect Bluetooth and ensure Bluetooth is not connected to any other devices.
    c. Change batteries.

I eventually keep messing with it, doing a and b above and sometimes, it ends up connecting. I finally stopped using it, but decided to give it a try again. Same thing… I just spent the last 25 minutes trying to get it to work. Unfortunately, I no longer have time to workout this morning. Absolutely useless!

I would like the original HR monitor that doesn’t have all the fancy bells and whistles – just a simple a) Wet the sensors on the strap. b) Put it on. c) Push the button to turn it on. And BOOM…your heart rate and calories burned appear on the watch. There are no other versions, but these app-enabled versions and it has a running total for the day.

Useless! I’m about ready to throw it in the garbage since that’s what it is – ”garbage”.

Update and Reduction in Overall Score:

I’m reducing this from 3 star to 1 star. I thought, perhaps, the battery was bad abd needed changing so I replaced it. Worked one time and that was it. Way too late to return it. Absolute garbage. I threw it away today.

Really cool device! I have worn it now for a week or so during different cardio workouts and outdoor activities. First, I have found it to be very comfortable. Second, it has stayed in place every time I’ve worn it and I swear alot when my heart rate gets above 135bpm. Thirdly, I like the fact that it now can transmit/pair with 2 Bluetooth devices. The pairing has been easy and simple. I would highly recommend the Polar H10 if you want to keep and highly accurate eye on your heart rate. I have it paired with a Garmin Instinct. I’ve been surprised that the Instinct has been within 4 BPM of the Polar until I go above 145BPM. Great product!
