When rushed into hospital, a few weeks ago, one of my symptoms was perilously low blood pressure. I had, for many years, been on two different tablets (and one of them a ‘combi’ tablet at that) to help control my hypertension, so the combi was withheld. On discharge, it was suggested that I bought a Blood Pressure Monitor to keep an eye on my BP, to then discuss my future treatment with my GP…

I bought the A&D Medical monitor because it was a reasonable price, has a WHO Blood pressure classification indicator, has good reviews, and a five year warranty – and the description stated that it included a “Carry Case” (and I have a real affinity for products that come in their own case!). Well, it seems to function properly: readings seem remarkably similar to those taken in hospital, and the cuff fits easily and comfortably – so it’s fitting the bill (and my upper arm!) perfectly! Good choice, so far…

I have one – minor – issue with the description, though: the “Carry Case” isn’t really a case at all…it’s a thin, nylon, drawstring bag! That’s annoying, especially as the bag offers the monitor little or no protection, other than – perhaps – from liquid spillage. Fortunately, I had a Kata Lite-431 DL camera case (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kata-Lite-431-Shoulder-Compact-Camcorder/dp/B00801N97W) tucked away, and it fits perfectly! It would, however, be unfair to dock the instrument by a star for that (though it would be nice to see the manufacturer change the description to “Carry Bag” or “Nylon Drawstring Bag”), so it scores five stars across the board from me.

I have checked my blood pressure daily as per my doctor’s suggestion. He also added another blood pressure medication. At the doctor yesterday my blood pressure was 130/75. At home about an hour earlier it read 160/95. This is not a good machine and I do not recommend anyone purchase it.

My Wife suffers from occasional high blood pressure and has been told that it needs to be continuously monitored, so every two weeks or so has to go to our local doctors practice to see the nurse, and have her blood pressure checked. So this was obviously a worrying time for her, and she wanted a blood pressure monitor of her own so that she could measure it on a daily basis. We opted for this model due to the good reviews (we had previously bought a watch strap type monitor which was useless and returned it). Well this arrived ahead of it’s delivery date, and it looked up to the job. Well every time she measured her blood pressure, even a few minutes apart, she got widely differing readings, I to tried it and got the same result, up the first time, down the second time etc etc. So she will be taking it to her next appointment with the nurse (two days time) and will check this one’s readings against those from the practices equipment. Though I feel it will be a pointless exercise, and we will be returning this model for a refund, we shall see.
Update, having seen the nurse and had her blood pressure checked using the nurses equipment, she then with the nurse present, did her blood pressure again using this equipment, surprisingly they both were more or less the same reading, the three digit first part was the same, and just a couple out on the lower two digit reading. In light of that, I have increased this equipments rating to four stars.

Blood pressure monitor gave one reading. The next day I tried again and it wouldn’t turn on. I changed to fresh batteries and the cuff started to inflate but the screen was blank. The cuff wouldn’t stop inflating until I took the batteries out.

This is a great little blood pressure monitor. It’s nice and simple to use. I’ve tried it a few times and it gives good consistent readings.
The red/amber/green area to the left is great to give you a quick ”at a glance” indication of your blood pressure level without having to remember what numbers are good or bad.

Most people have heard of ”Omron” as a brand but A&D are also a big brand and the quality of this unit is as good as the Omron one I had previously.

I ummed and ahhed for a while as to whether to get the UA-650 or UA-651 which are functionally the same, but the UA-651 comes with a carry bag. In the end I went for the UA-651 but wished I hadn’t bothered as the dust bag is no more than a little bag with a draw string that you simply shove everything into. I would have liked something a little more padded and customed designed. So in short, save your money and go for the cheaper one.

I owned this monitor since 2019. I always thought my pressure was elevated but when I go to my doctors appointments, it was pretty normal. I even had my doctor prescribed me BP medication which did help….now fast forward to 2020 in my pregnancy, I use it to monitor my BP but for some reason it kept giving me high readings but when I went into to the emergency assessment center, my pressure was normal (130/80)…it gave me two different readings 5 minutes apart…it also always say cuff error before it give these inaccurate readings. Don’t buy, it’s junk.

Needed small cuff..works easily, and stays snug for reading.

Could never get a consistent reading. Always says cuff error. Takes like ten tries to get a reading most of the time.

My wife tried to use the monitor today, 5 days after the Warranty Return policy ran out. I’m trying to contact a Amazon person. Impossible.

Excellent product ! Retired nurse and this is by far best quality I’ve run into in 44 years in the medical profession. Easy to use by myself. I can’t figure out how it can be sold at such a low price.

Easy to use and user-friendly! I am so glad I can check my BP @ home now. This thing is small enough I can just store it in a drawer and grab it when I feel like it, and check my BP!

This product arrived at the beginning of January 2019 and worked well until February 2019, so about 1 month. It then started malfunctioning and I could smell something burning! I was willing to have a replacement or a full refund, however I was very hard pressed to find the seller’s contact details to report to, so with this in mind, be warned.
