    [WARRANTY SERVICE UPDATE]
I have re-edited my rating (originally 5 stars, reduced to 3 stars and now restored to 5 stars. As below, I bought the BM55 on recommendation of Wirecutter. The monitor (or more precisely, I believe, the cuff) failed. I wrote to Beurer North America on a Saturday, they replied the following Monday (i.e., next business day) with detailed instructions for returning the unit. They accommodated my concerns regarding cost of warranty service (i.e., shipping), speed of service (how long I would be without the unit), and possible outcomes (repair, return of refurbished or new unit). In short, they were very responsive.

I was very satisfied with the outcome: Beurer responded quickly to my concerns, they kept me informed of their decisions, they honored the warranty within one day of receiving the failed unit and posted a new (not refurbished) unit within one day of receipt.

I received a new unit within one week of returning the failed unit. The new replacement unit seems to be more accurate/consistent than the old one. I think the replacement cuff has a re-designed point of entry for the inflation tube (less vulnerable to failure from regular use?). The cuff itself is relatively lightweight, and is of different design than the cuff the YouTube video.

Altogether, a satisfying warranty experience, with only an initial miscommunication to challenge satisfaction, and this was quickly resolved by the company.

The cuff unit itself is used for three readings each morning. It takes some getting used to, and is less convenient than the wrist cuff I previously used, but I think this is likely to be long-term more accurate and satisfying to use. It probably requires 5 — 10 minutes to take the three readings and enter them into a spreadsheet.

I generally trust NY Times WireCutter more than I trust Consumer Reports. This item was not reviewed by the latter. I have been using an Omron wrist cuff, but wanted additional accuracy. The Beurer upper arm cuff is definitely less convenient than the wrist cuff. Accuracy is not noticeably better, but it is a well built device with really big readable display and apparently well-designed components. I have been running the two devices together for about a month – the readings are similar, but you need to learn how to position the cuff on your arm or you will not get accurate results. The Beurer has an indicator if the reading i inaccurate because of improper cuff placement, improper posture during the test, or not waiting long enough between tests (minutes, not hours). Nice feature. The BP devices at my doctor’s office do not read consistently with my two devices, which raises interesting questions — ever wonder if all thos instruments at the doctor’s office really are accurate?

(UPDATE) – Here is a copy of correspondence between myself and the manufacturer, I am downgrading the rating from 5 stars to 3 and will see if a further downgrade is warranted when I hear back from Florida):

    [MY WARRANTY REQUEST]
I purchased a BM55 blood pressure monitor from Amazon on 16 June 2019. Two days ago it began giving an ER-4 message. This had never happened before. I attempted to loosen the cuff several times and I tried tightening the cuff several times. I occasionally got a BP reading, but mostly (8 out of 10) got an ER-4 message. I notice a hissing sound on deflation/reinflation. This is a new sound. The cuff has been trying to further inflate after first stopping for several seconds. I request warranty service. Thank you.

    [THEIR REPLY]
Thank you for purchasing our Beurer BM55 blood pressure monitor.

We will need for the unit be sent to us for inspection, repair and/or replacement as per the provisions of the written warranty.

To do so we ask that you send us the cuff and monitor (any box or envelope, no batteries and no receipt necessary) (via USPS, FedEx or UPS) including your name, your return shipping address and the return postage paid in stamps (please do not send a check or money order) or a prepaid FedEx or UPS return shipping label to:

    Beurer North America
    Attention Warranty
    1 Oakwood Blvd, Suite 255
    Hollywood, FL 33020

If using UPS or FedEx, make sure to pay for a return shipping label. If using the post office, then the cheapest way we have found it to purchase a Padded Priority Flat Rate envelope for $8 .40 (or a small flat box costs a little more) and buy $8.40 in stamps.

I have had this cuff for a couple of months now – I am 36 weeks pregnant and have BP issues so an accurate monitor is important.

I rushed myself to the ER last night because this crappy machine told me my BP was sky high consistently over a few hours. My arm fits within the cuff specifications and I was relaxed.

At home read high150s/100+ multiple times. In reality BP is 116/60.

An expensive hospital bill later I am giving this cuff a low low low rating. I wish I could return it so I don’t feel bad putting it in my trash can.

While I don’t question the accuracy of the readings the monitor itself is just poorly designed. I’m an adult male with an average-sized upper arm. In an effort to be all things to all people the cuff strap is simply too large to easily slip on and off. The clip on the armband is too large and despite having the cuff for a couple of weeks it’s still tricky to get it on right and tighten, it just flops around unless you really futz with it. The correct positioning of the cuff is critical to getting proper readings. I’ve used Omron cuffs for decades and never had these kinds of problems…
As mentioned in another review battery life is short. When you replace your battery you lose all the readings stored in the cuff…
All in all, a poorly designed piece of hardware. I wish I hadn’t bought it

My biggest complaint is the memory. It’s almost completely useless. First, it’s VERY fussy to access, you have to time the sequence of turning the machine on an hitting a poorly defined area [it’s NOT exactly M1 or M2] to the right or left of the on button exactly so otherwise the cuff just starts inflating. If you actually get to the memory trying to scroll through the readings is clunky, stabbing the same poorly defined area to scroll through. Simply printing M1 and M2 on the case does not cut it, put a real button there. Some readings are date stamped some aren’t and false starts like when you’re trying to read memory not take BP are also logged in as zeros. It’s never clear whether your reading is going into M1 or M2. All in all, I simply expected more from such a highly rated BP monitor.

I am a home health nurse and have tried many different cuffs. I use it about 4-10 times a day and The batteries have to be replaced often. The readings take longer than most electric cuffs, often reinflating multiple times. The material the cuff is made of is a plastic like material and not very durable. When compared to my Manuel cuff it is not always accurate and reads a bit high. Thinking of sending back as I’ve only had it for 3 weeks and have had to change the batteries twice.

Illuminated display is easy to read, nice compact size and the accuracy is fine but beware the short battery life. The small AAA batteries are not up to the task and discharge quickly.

Suddenly began reading my bp as 193 over 90 each time. Got out my old mercury manometer and verified that it was broken. Always reads the same bp now, regardless of my actual bp. Otherwise easy to use but the whole point is to get an accurate reading. Not recommended.

Everything said about how bad the instructions are is true. They are useless. And the machine is not accurate and the battery level indicator does not work. Replaced batteries twice each time using fresh ones, and the indicator still registered low battery charge. There is a power cord connection built into the unit, but does not come with power cord. Huh? I tried it for a week and decided to return.

I bought this item for my grandmother who really needed one to check her blood pressure daily. Since the moment she received she has been super happy with it. The resting indicator is really a bonus feature that helps her out in getting accurate readings. She has also taken it to her doctor’s to compare and make sure she is getting consistent results. So far, this blood pressure monitor has been ideal!
